AsureQuality and Toitū Envirocare have partnered to offer this important new Programme which supports farmers in meeting their environmental responsibilities. The Farm Carbon Certification Programme has been designed specifically for New Zealand Farmers and their unique requirements.

The primary sector and the Government last year signed a joint action plan, He Waka Eke Noa, to measure and reduce primary sector carbon emissions by 2025 or for the sector to face being enrolled in the Emissions Trading Scheme. The Farm Carbon Certification Programme is a great step towards helping farmers to track emissions and to meet these new requirements in an easy and manageable way.

Gaining Farm Carbon Certification also provides an opportunity for farmers to tap into the growth market of consumers who are prepared to pay a premium for goods produced in an environmentally friendly and/or sustainable manner.  “Environmental sustainability demands are rapidly emerging across farming sectors” says John McKay, AsureQuality’s Chief Executive Officer. “We have a deep responsibility to do the right thing for food and for the environment, so are proud to be supporting our farmers in this space”.

“New Zealand farmers outperform others around the world and this new Programme will provide verification of their efforts, plus helpful advice on how they can continue to reduce carbon emissions.” Says Toitū Envirocare General Manager Strategy and Partnerships Steve Dixon.

The Farm Carbon Certification Programme is designed to be a simple and affordable solution for farmers to manage their carbon emissions. It incorporates a world-leading carbon management tool that integrates directly with OverseerFM®, a farm nutrient management system currently used by many New Zealand farmers, and allows for easy and efficient emission and on-farm sequestration tracking.
